The thing is, I'd like to be able to schedule out posts to go on a delay, and I'd also like to control whether or not a post is relayed to the company's twitter feed or facebook page. Both can be done via the twitter webpage, but I'm greedy...I'd like an all-in-one client for the WP blogs I also run.

Is the tumblr API keeping this close to their chests as well as the photo issue?

I was messing with configuring a new blog substituting "posts" with "pages" in the URL and it mostly works, which makes me wonder if it would be easy and worthwhile to enhance MarsEdit to support this properly.

I found that when publishing new "Pages" they are shown as "Hidden" in the Blogger control panel (and can be dragged up to make them active). I don't see an obvious way of controlling the hidden/unhidden property from MarsEdit. I also found that deleting a "Page" removes it from MarsEdit, but sometimes leaves it in an inconsistent state on the blog. The page seems gone, but it is still referenced in the title bar of the blog. Updates to existing pages seem fine, so it's not a huge deal given the frequency of page addition/deletions. Drafts seem to work.

Hi guys,

I'm testing out MarsEdit and it's really cool - apart from one lacking thing: Support for Zemanta images. That would really make my month!
It would make it so much easier to have images at your fingertips for your blog-posts, and not having to search them all out first or add them later, when you have found the right one.

I've searched the forum and find posts like this one: http://www.red-sweater.com/forums/discussion/comment/10268#Comment_10268 which is quite old... And worthy of note is that recently Zemanta has been added to Google docs as well as support other types of blogging applications (but sadly those apps are for windows).

I seriously think it would be a great time to reconsider adding support for this, as that really would optimise the blogging experience for your customers, as well as be a great sales-point by now. Much have changed since 2011 ;)

Another thing that would be really cool, would be the posibility to share the post you have just written, via i.e twitter, facebook, google+ and/or linkedIn. Especially the first 2 would be my preference.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. I'll most likely end up buying MarsEdit anyway, but I REALLY would love to see the Zemanta support inside the app. :)

I just noticed that editing a WordPress page with MarsEdit forces that page to become a "public" page. WP has the concept of private pages documented at http://codex.wordpress.org/Content_Visibility and a private page can be treated in various ways by a WP theme. Usually themes will prevent these pages from showing up in navigation bars and menus. When MarsEdit saves a page, this "private" flag is lost and the page lands in the navigation. Not good.

Also, this makes me wonder what other sort of hidden metadata is being eliminated or reset when I edit a page with WP. This may be a WP problem for all I know. Maybe WP does not share these settings in the first place? In any case, it is pretty much a showstopper for editing private pages.

Does anyone have a solution? Is the private flag the equivalent of a "server custom field name" for example? If so, maybe I can just define it in MarsEdit?

Please respect whitespace in Extended Entry (for WordPress)

I've been testing out the Extended Entry field for working with a new WordPress blog, and am running into a problem: MarsEdit always submits this to the server, regardless of leading/trailing whitespace:

...end of the entry text.<!--more--><h2>Starting of the extended entry</h2>...

This is a problem, because it causes WordPress to render this markup to the page:

...<p>end of the entry text.<span id="more-1"></span><br><h2>Starting of the extended entry</h2>...

In other words, it nests the H2 in the preceding paragraph, which is decidedly NOT what I want. If I edit the entry in the WordPress admin screen, I can get my desired markup by doing this:

...end of the entry text<!--more-->

<h2>Starting of the extended entry</h2>...

And when MarsEdit pulls that in, it shows the extended entry starting with a pair of newlines (as I would expect). However, if I save an entry from MarsEdit with newlines leading the extended entry, they get stripped out and I'm back to square one.

I'd really appreciate it if, at least for WordPress blogs, you respected the whitespace at the end of the entry and beginning of the extended entry. I don't see that I have much choice about this except to avoid the extended entry feature completely in favor of manually inserting
<!--more-->
tags currently (which is unfortunate, because there's a nice usability improvement for this particular project when using a separate field for extended entry, as I always have the same sort of standalone information down there).

Any thoughts?

Let me start by saying this is not a request to make MarsEdit work more like Tumblr. It's just a UX observation that I think could help improve MarsEdit.

When you create a new post on Tumblr's site, there's a big green "Create Post" button that, once tapped, will indeed create and publish your post. But if you change the post status from "publish now" to "save draft," that button's label changes to "Save draft" to help reinforce that the post will not be published now, but saved for later.

On a few occasions, I've set a MarsEdit post status from "Published" to "draft," spent some time crafting the post, then hit "Send to blog" because I want to add images up in the CMS, share it with my co-writers, or what have you. Then I crap my pants because I couldn't remember if I had indeed set it to draft, so I rush to log into the web CMS and check to make sure.

It would super neat if you could consider making the "Send to Blog" button label match the post status if the user changes it, helping to reinforce exactly what's going to happen to that post once it floats up to the cloud.
