I have an old blogger that I host at my own domain. It works with the new blogger settings, I suppose it made it over. The deal is, I couldn't get images to upload via blogger so I decided to upload them via ftp and just create custom img src tags. It works, but....

I can't get the image to remain within the post area set by blogger. It escapes it and messes up the formatting.
Here's an example:
http://phoenixrisingtattoo.hartjoy.com/thornesworld.html

I'm editing a draft and then switch the focus back to the main window. To resume editing the draft by double-clicking its title in the main window, I would expect that the double-click would simply activate the window/bring it to the front. And this is what happens if the draft has unsaved changes, but if the draft has been edited and saved, then MarsEdit opens a second window. If you edit and save and reopen you will get a third window and so on. I don't know whether that's really a bug, but I would prefer that reopening a draft would just activate the draft window and not spawn new ones if that makes sense. It's especially confusing because the multiple windows are independent of each other and don't show the same text. I am using 1.2.

Hi!

As I've seen there is ATOM support in the application, if you choose the "Vox" engine.

Currently I'm evaluating this for my blog engine, and I have a couple of suggestions which would be nice to have in MarsEdit.

1.

It seems that the automatic API discovery uses the "engineName" element from the RSD file. So, if my engine is not supported by MarsEdit, it will recognize it as "Other Blogger-compatible" and will try to use XmlRPC even if I return only one ATOM endpoint

        <apis>
<api name=\"Atom\" preferred=\"true\" apiLink=\"http://localhost/a/atom.ashx\" />
</apis>

So, it would be nice to see that MarsEdit uses the api elements and chooses one which fits.

2.

Authentication.

ATOM does not have any authentication method defined, it depends on implementation. Some of the vendors started to use the X-WSSE header based authentication, which is supported by MarsEdit.

The issues is that this method _requires_ the server to have _plain_text_ passwords for the users, so it's a potential security problem. Besides this, other vendors trust more the Digest or NTLM authentication methods, since these are older and more proven.

It would be nice, if MarsEdit would recognize the WWW-Authenticate header returned by the server, and would be able to use at least the Digest authentication. NTLM is harder, and is usually used on intranets, so I think it's not so important.

And there is another ATOM auth. proposal, however I'm not usre if anyone is using it in production. http://bitworking.org/news/New_AtomAPI_Implementation_Release2

Hi

First off. Love MarsEdit. One feature I would absolutely love in the next version is the ability to add categories to a Typepad blog.

But to the real issue. Typepad has Markdown support. MarsEdit allows Markdown syntax to be used when composing posts. Something that I have found is that ordered lists (ie. 1., 2., etc) when Marked Down in MarsEdit appears as plain text when posted. For example:

1. Blah
2. Blah
3. Blah

is turned into

1. Blah 2. Blah 3. URLs, emphasis, italics, etc)

This might sound strange, but I would like printing support on MarsEdit. I find that proofreading hard copies of things I write improves my prose. I don't usually do that on a blog, but sometimes I need to. The extra step of moving the text to a different editor seems unnecessary. Ideally, the printing support would include the preview window.

Explanation: Something good happens when I have my words printed on paper. For whatever reason, I can be more objective and pick up on more issues. I think it has something to do with expectations: we forgive a lot on screen, because this is something like a spoken culture. Print matter demands higher standards.

Thank you for considering this request.

The last version I tried --before the grand acquisition!-- just spat back an error showing that it hadn't used the system's proxy settings.
A couple users have noticed problems with MarsEdit 1.2 after agreeing to update the Keychain for MarsEdit and then attempting to refresh their blogs or post a new post:

http://www.red-sweater.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=250

It's been discovered that at least in one case, deleting the Keychain Access item(s) for MarsEdit (you'll have to enter your passwords again, so reveal them and write them down if necessary) works around the problem.

I'm going to be looking into the root cause of this problem, and if it is indeed something that MarsEdit is doing, fix it ASAP. But as a workaround try deleting the keychain passwords:

1. Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utiltiies/Keychain Access)
2. Find MarsEdit password items (type MarsEdit into the search filter field).
3. Select MarsEdit items and delete them after writing down the associated password, if necessary.

I apologize for the inconvenience and hope to get to the *real* bottom of this soon.

Daniel

The reaction to Blogger support in MarsEdit 1.1.5 has been great! Thanks everybody for trying it out so quickly and returning with your feedback.

The most common reaction so far has been that it works great but you can't upload images. I researched this and discovered that, unfortunately, Google does not currently support this for "external editors." I found this post on the Google Developer's group from Pete Hopkins of the Blogger developer team:

http://groups.google.com/group/bloggerDev/msg/d36fc1fc994d0de6?dmode=source

In it he replies to the question with the statement:

"Not now. This is a very requested feature, and may appear at some point."

So the best advice I have for MarsEdit users who want to see this support for Blogger, is to get in touch with Google and "vote with your email."

UPDATE: This feedback form was suggested by a Google employee as a good choice:

http://help.blogger.com/?page=troubleshooter.cs&problem=&contact_type=wishlist&Submit=Submit

I think the thing to ask for is "Image uploading support for clients using the Blogger Atom Publishing Protocol."

Daniel

Hi,

I recently had some problems with posts I made from MarsEdit to my Textpattern blog. Today I realized it seemed to occur only when I edited a post. This would then result in a 404/Not found on my blog, even though the entry would still be in the DB and the textpattern article list. Saving the same article once more in the blogs backend resolves the error.
I'm not sure if it's a problem with the rudimentary RPC-support from textpattern or something else, but it would be great if you could look into it.

p.s.
Congratulations!

----------------------
Textpattern · 4.0.4
Mars Edit 1.1.8 (334)

RPC Console (don't know if of any help)

RPC message sent: 2007-05-20 22:15:13 +0200
URL: http://blog....
Method name: metaWeblog.editPost
RPC reply received: 2007-05-20 22:15:14 +0200
URL: http://blog....
Method name: metaWeblog.editPost
Status code: 200
Succeeded: YES
Request text:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

metaWeblog.editPost

[postID]

[username]

[password]

flNotOnHomePage
0

categories

[category]

description
[Some Text and links from the article here]

link
[article url]

title
[article title]

1

Response text:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

1

This blog is an FTP blog.

To set the blog up I had to tell MarsEDIT the remote address of the blog (http://www.domain.com) rather than a blogspot address.

I added an image to a post and left the path: field blank.

MarsEDIT then posted the image file to a completely different server to the blog entry (really, http://domain2.com is not even on the same host as domain.com).

Clearly MarsEDIT is using a default, but where is that default set?

Is it for example, the last entry for which a path: was provided?

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Tkx/Jules
