Can't Load blog onto Marsedit...URL problem?
  • I am trying to load my blog onto marsedit, and it won't load. Is it because the blog is private? I have two. One loaded, and the other didn't. thanks!
  • Hi - it probably is indeed because of the privacy setting on the blog. MarsEdit uses information embedded in the home page of your blog to figure out the correct settings for communicating with your blog server.

Are these blogs both on the same system? (Blogger by chance?). What you can do is mimic the settings from the working one and just change the tiny differences in the configuration that will be necessary to differentiate between the two. E.g. on most systems it's just a difference of the "Blog ID" and the "API Endpoint URL" settings.

    1. Open the blog settings for the working blog by double-clicking its icon in the main MarsEdit window.
    2. Copy down the settings from the "General" tab.
    3. Open up the settings for the private blog.
    4. Set all the same settings except for "Blog ID" which you'll have to figure out (more below).
    5. If the "API Endpoint URL" has the blog ID in it somewhere, also change it in the URL.
    6. Close settings window and refresh the private blog.

Finding the blog ID for the private blog can be tricky. You'll have to "View Source" from a browser to see the HTML code from your private blog's home page, and then try to figure out what the blog ID is by searching for references to it. On Blogger for example you'll often find a line with "blogID=NNN" in it, where you can copy out NNN and paste it into MarsEdit.

Sorry, I know this is fairly complicated. Another alternative would be to momentarily make the blog public, add it to MarsEdit, and then set it to private again.

Drop me a line support@red-sweater.com, if you would like me to help personally with figuring out the settings for your blog.
