Restoring from Time Machine - what's needed?
  • Yesterday I deleted some old blogs from Mars Edit, then decided I shouldn't have done that (it was my only copy of some of the old posts). No problem, I've restored Mars Edit from backups before and it worked fine. Except this time it hasn't. I have restored ~/Library/Application Support/MarsEdit, ~/Library/Preferences/com.ranchero.MarsEdit.plist, and even /Applications/MarsEdit (though that should not have been necessary). It's still showing just the blog I set up yesterday and none of the ones that were deleted. What have I missed?
  • Hmm... I restored an older copy of ~/Library/Application Support/MarsEdit and now my old posts are back. The one I restored the first time should have been plenty old enough. I suspect that some aspect of Time Machine in [ROARDACTED] is not quite ready for prime time...
  • Hi Janine- I have heard from time to time issues with trying to restore from Time Machine, not just on pre-release OSes. Glad to hear the second attempt to restore did the trick.

FWIW you shouldn't ever need to restore "com.ranchero.MarsEdit.plist". MarsEdit will resort to loading from that file if there is no more modern equivalent, but generally speaking MarsEdit nowadays uses com.red-sweater.marsedit.plist.
  • Ah, good to know. I was searching for files with MarsEdit in their names and I didn't pick up the one with the lowercase equivalent.
