Block Quote Issue

    Hey Guys,

    I have an okay grasp on some of this blogging stuff, but I'm having this one minor issue thats giving me a big headache, and I'm hoping you guys can help.

    On my very first post I used a block quote, and it gave me this nice vertical gray line on the left margin, which I liked. Only now whenever I try to make a new post and use a block quote, the line doesn't show up. But, if I go and gut and paste the 1st block quote into a new post, sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't.

    Any idea on how I can fix this inconsistency?

    Hi David - I suspect that whatever is going on must have to do with the state of your post at the time you are trying to enter the blockquote. Are you sure that if you make a new post, and before typing any content, you select Format -> Blockquote, it sometimes doesn't show the vertical bar?

    I would be curious to zero in on whether it's only in certain circumstances where the vertical bar doesn't work. If it does only seem to be after some editing has been done, it would be helpful to capture the HTML source for the post at the time the blockquoting is not working.

    Also, when the bar doesn't show up in the blockquote, do other stylistic changes occur to let you know it's a blockquote, like an indenting?

    I'm also having the exact same problem except that it's never worked for me. As in, I'll be in a blog entry and I'll hit Format > Blockquote, and I'll see the cool margin, but when I upload it or check it in preview, it isn't there. I've tried a couple of different things -- new posts, starting with empty post and then trying blockquote -- but I can't seem to figure out a way to get it right.

    EDIT: Also, yes, I get the indentation too.

    Rifat: It sounds like if it doesn't show up in the preview or on your blog, the style template for your blog may just be configured to show blockquote formatted text differently? The little bar margin in MarsEdit is there just to make it obvious the text is being formatted as blockquote style, but the specifics of how this is displayed (as with bullets, and many other stylistic issues) is left to the blog itself.

    If you have a published post you can point me to that has a blockquote like this, I can examine it to see if the blockquotes are present and just not showing up visibly.

    Ah, thank you Daniel for getting back to me. Okay, that makes a lot of sense now. Let me do some tweaking to see if I can make it better...
