i used writeroom to do a post and when i went back to Marsedit, the green text of the writeroom theme was in the post and Marsedit wouldn't let me change it. not the font and not the text color. so i ended up with a huge amount of code and had to do the post over again and having just purchased it, skip Marsedit because that with the formatting issue which i'm trying to resolve (line breaks all doubled) made it unusable.
the main point for here is: a.) writeroom w/ Marsedit: any way to not have the theme/skin formatting come over (i like to write on the old pc-style black screen, green text but don't want that in my post, obviously)
b.) formatting control. even using the Color and Font formatting, Marsedit reverted to and posted the Writeroom theme formatting. what can i do about this, please?
Hi - thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am sorry the WriteRoom integration is not working as smoothly as I'd hope. Please be assured that if we can't get MarsEdit working in a way that is acceptable to you, I am happy to offer a refund or to encourage you to seek a refund from Apple if you purchased through the Mac App Store.
It sounds like it's the green theme coming over is probably an issue that WriteRoom needs to address: MarsEdit just asks WriteRoom for the text of the post and does no additional filtering of it.
That said, there may be some way to tweak the settings in WriteRoom to control this. Is it possible you are editing in "Rich Mode" in WriteRoom? Would you be willing to edit in plain text mode in WriteRoom? That would probably cause WriteRoom to avoid putting the theme of the style into the text.
I will look into this in more depth on my own Mac with WriteRoom, but the issue of MarsEdit not being able to remove the color or change the font must be a separate issue that I'd like to follow up on with a good sample test case. If you could possibly reproduce the scenario where this is happening, and then switch to HTML Text mode in MarsEdit to copy the HTML code from the post, then I could use that as a test case to investigate this further here.
(It might be easiest to email me the HTML text since it's hard to post it here in the forums. support@red-sweater.com. Thanks!)
i thought the same thing about rich text vs. plain text mode with Write Room, so tried that way. same thing. it was the same doc, though, so i'll try a new one made strictly from plain text, never having been an rtf.
and yes, i'll send the HTML via email. thank you./
i haven't been able to re-create this. i did some updates and i don't see this issue, but rather the one with line breaks. i'll return to this should i find it again, thank you.
Do you mean, how could you get the text in Writeroom to be just plain text? If you want to avoid having HTML in your posts at all (and let the blog system interpret and add paragraph tags as it sees fit), then you can stick to "HTML Text" mode in MarsEdit's post editor. This is a MarsEdit preference you change. In HTML Text mode, MarsEdit will never add HTML to your post content, so you would be able to write without HTML and edit in Writeroom would not receive any HTML either.
