I've had a private monthly blog for friends on iWeb for 3-4 years. Each entry has several photos with captions and a page to two-page essay. As everyone knows, the iWeb hosting is ending soon, and I'm looking for a convenient transition software. I don't know HTML, I love the click-n-drag ease of iWeb, and I like being able to add photos and change my layout -within the general limits of the template I selected. Can someone direct me to any article that gives me a good sense of how well someone like me with little computer knowledge is going to handle MarsEdit? And -- is there any way to move all of my old blog entries onto a platform once MobileMe is gone and not lose all of the formatting? THANKS for any help and guidance
Hi Joanne - I know the transition from iWeb is frustrating and I'm sorry you have to go through it.
Unfortunately the iWeb format is not easily adaptable to MarsEdit, per se. I think it would be best to look into what your options are for transitioning from iWeb's format to a format such as WordPress, Blogger, etc. I think people have done some work on this so it is probably worth googling for help.
After you get your blog content migrated from iWeb to another blog service such as WordPress or Blogger, you would be able to connect to it and edit posts using MarsEdit. Whether it turns out to be the right solution or not is sort of separate from the problem of finding a way to migrate your current iWeb blog to another service.
I wish I had a better solution for you but hopefully this helps to clarify the challenge you face in moving away from iWeb.
Thanks, Daniel - I was afraid you'd say something like this. I checked out 'blogspot' on google and found it to be very clunky. I've got wordpress on my list to check next. and I'll add blogger. There are so many of us with an interest in communicating but not quite confident to take on the more sophisticated programs.
