Support for additional percent code options in "web puzzle" links
  • I figured out that since I subscribe to the NY Times and have access to the downloadable crossword puzzles, I could program the URL of the puzzles into the "web puzzle" feature and it allows me access as long as I am logged into and or 'remembered' by nytimes.com in my browser. However, the one hitch is that nytimes.com uses the three letter abbreviation for the month rather than the digit in it's puzzle URLs, i.e. 'Aug' instead of '08'.

    Here is a real-world example:
    http://select.nytimes.com/premium/xword/Aug1807.puz

Rather than changing the three letter abbreviation each month, it'd be great if I could use the standard percentage code to do this for me, automatically.
  • Hi - there is indeed a code - I should make this more obvious (and perhaps include the Premium NY Times feed in the program somehow). Here is the URL to use for premium puzzles:

    http://www.nytimes.com/premium/xword/%b%d%y.puz

In my experience the premium service is *very* good about remembering you, once you've logged in once at the site.
  • That's great. Thanks a lot.
