Still in trial period, but so far I do like MarsEdit. A couple of questions (self hosted WP blogs using rich text editing).

- Is there a way to do a startpost/endpost? EG, I often have numerous notes about a post that I keep in the beginning of my document and then put graveyard text that I may still use at the end. This is particularly critical for posts that get routine updates over time.

- Similarly, is there a way to do inline notes that aren't published?

- Is there a way to sort Local Drafts by last modified date instead of created date?

- Post management. If I open a published post, make some mods, then save it unpublished, it saves to Local Drafts. So far, so good. If I forget that I've made these mods and again open the published post, there does not appear to be anything that warns me and asks if I want to open the published post or the more recently modified version in Local Drafts. ??

- I have occasionally ended up with multiple versions of the same post in Local Drafts and in one case they have the exact same timestamp.

- Is there a way to create multiple draft folders (eg, one for each blog)? Or, can I have multiple instances of MarsEdit, one for each blog?

Sorry if these are basic and have been covered elsewhere. My feeble searches and antiquated tech ability haven't provided answers to these.

When previewing a post in MarsEdit that is going to my blog on Blogger, I see that the Markdown code is correctly turned into html when I use the "Markdown" filter. I assumed that when MarsEdit uploads my post to blogger it would also convert the Markdown code to html so that Blogger would render the post exactly as MarsEdit did for the preview.

However, I see that the Markdown code is sent to Blogger without translating it into html. I've checked all the menus and settings but can't find an option that says something like, "Convert Markdown to html before sending to blog". Is there such a setting?

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that MarsEdit purposefully sends the Markdown code and assumes that the blog will also understand Markdown. That way the local version and the blog version would be in sync. However, in the case of Blogger, there doesn't appear to be a way for it to handle Markdown. Perhaps other blogs do this, but Blogger doesn't.

Unless MarsEdit gives me an option to convert Markdown code to html before sending it to Blogger, I can't take advantage of the simplicity and transparency of Markdown: I am better off writing in html in the first place. Or perhaps I need another program that exports html from a Markdown source and then paste that html into MarsEdit. That would be a pain since every time I wanted to make a change I'd have to go back to the original code, change the Markdown, export the html, and then paste it into MarsEdit, which then uploads it to Blogger. In that case I'd be better off not using MarsEdit and just paste the html code from the Markdown software directly into Blogger.

Have I missed something?

Hi,
I've searched the forums up and down for this and haven't found it.

#### Question background / synopsis:
I am running a number of wordpress blogs - most are photographic and have 2-20 photographs per post.
When uploading images with Marsedit, the images are not resized to the sizes needed. Though I can set the image resizing to *one* size needed for the blog, many themes need different sizes. See below.
Also, when I resize an image upon upload to a size that doesn't break the design, the blog visitor has no chance to click-to-enlarge the photo.

#### Wordpress internal workings I'm trying to replicate:
Wordpress has a standard set of image sizes (thumbnail, medium, large, original) - their dimensions are set in the wordpress installation's settings. They usually correspond with what the theme needs. (More on that below)

When you upload an image through the wordpress online admin form (yourpage.com/wp-admin), all images are automatically resized into those sizes. Say for example I am uploading a photo that is 1482px x 1002 px.
This photo is then available within wordpress in the following sizes:

Thumbnail (150 × 150)
Medium (300 × 202)
Large (500 × 337)
Original (1482 × 1002)

All these will link to an attachment page or a full-size photo file (jpg in this case) when clicked.

Let's say my theme will use 500px wide images or it breaks.
When I upload the 1482 px wide image through the wordpress admin media manager, I can add a 500px wide image to the post. The image is clickable and visitors can see the image in 1482 wide if they wish to do so.

#### What Marsedit does
When I add an image to MarsEdit, I can pick it's size. I can chose to leave the image at 1482x1002 or I can downsize it to one of the other dimensions listed above. Or any other combination that has the same aspect ratio.
In order not to break my aforementioned design, I have to resize it to 500x337. This works for the design - but the visitor now has no way to click-to-enlarge the file and see the photography in a size that makes him smile ;-)

#### bottom line and appeal
I'm a traveling photographer. Internet connections are usually shit where I am so working online (i.e. using the wordpress interface) is no option. It would be a dream come true if I could prepare my blog posts in Marsedit while I am offline and then just upload them when I have a connection, open them in the wordpress interface to add things Marsedit can't do (i.e. featured image) and be done with it.

My questions are:

- Is there a more intelligent way for me to upload images than the one I described above?
- Maybe I am missing something here? An easy fix to make the image uploaded clickable?

Hello everyone,

I use MarsEdit specially for updating my blog.

And sometimes I want to focus only on my draft post.
And if I post a lot of posts between each draft, is complicated.
`So my question is:
is it possible to choose to downloads the 30 most draft posts from your blog instead of the 30 most recent posts?

ps: while I was writing my question, I thought a trick. I'm going to change the date of my draft ;-)
But my question is still valid !!
Because it could be great!!

cheers

Experts, I have a simple request here that hopefully someone can help me out with. I've got a general template that works great for my initial blog post although there are sections I go back in and comment on the following day. I would like to define an RTF format hotkey that switches the new font to Bold/Red for my follow-up messages.

I'm familiar with the color switch palette hotkey but I'm hoping to eliminate a CMD-B for Bold & mouse click to set font color every time I want to write a follow-up comment on the blog.

What is the best way to accomplish this task in MarsEdit?

Very often, my blog posts involve dragging one or more attachments (PDFs, zips, or jpgs) into a post body and it works just fine, but when I do this, the floating icon I'm dragging with me obscures the insertion point, making it difficult to see exactly where I'm going to be dropping it. This is relevant, for example, if I'm trying to drop something between td tags. Something like 30% of the time, I wind up missing by a character and having to go back and fix up the tags around it by hand (I work almost exclusively in HTML mode).

It is only occurring to me now as I type this that I can probably work around this myself by just using a bigger font size in posts (I'm using Menlo 9, my laptop has a small screen), and probably the insertion point and drag graphics are handled more by Mac OS X than by MarsEdit -- but on the off chance that there's an easy way to make the insertion point for a drag more visible even at small font sizes, I for one would much appreciate it!

I guess this is supposed to be a question. So: is this easy to change?

Hi Guys

I've been using Marsedit for years ... recently I reformatted my Mac and now find that all my WordPress posts are being published immediately. Even after I set the date for 'tomorrow' for example.

I'm guessing I've made a schoolboy error ...
I set the date, and
set the post status to published and then
click send to blog

It seems if you change the post status - AFTER you set the date, then this wipes the publish date value.

Because if I do things in this order, the future date is kept

set the post status to published,
set the date, and then
click send to blog

Hope that helps?

Thanks

Damien
