Hi - I haven't particularly tested with Joomla or Mambo, but I found some evidence on the Joomla site to suggest it should work:
http://www.joomla.org/component/option, ,105/p,47/
If you want to give it a try, the key words to search for a "xml-rpc" ... the article I linked above indicates that they support an "old Blogger" style interface, so to set it up in MarsEdit you would select "Other Blogger-Compatible" as the System type, and put http://[yoursite]/xmlrpc/index.php as the RPC URL.
Unless there is a specific Weblog ID specified, it's usually safe to just put "1" as the weblog ID.
If anybody else has tried MarsEdit with Joomla, please chime in!
Daniel,
I get a server returned an unexpected response code error code 404 (probably because http://[yoursite]/xmlrpc/index.php does not exist in my Joomla install. I did some poking around to find xmlrpc and couldn't find it in my install but I can look again.
I did look again (auto-detect off the url did not work, there was no xmlrpc.php file) and tried a bunch of dom_xmlrpc_domxml_parser.php files but got the "not a complete xml-rpc response" error on every file I tried. I am not sure if this is going to be possible or not since joomla is a full cms and marsedit mostly recognizes blogs only?
Thanks,

It might be the case that the XMLRPC support is an add on to the default Joomla install.
I can't find any joomla extension that might allow this
so if anyone else has an idea that would be cool - I've kinda given up on the joomla route and switched to wordpress but it would be cool to know.
Thanks,
Joomla 1.5 RC3 has an xml-rpc folder and supposedly provides support.
I have tested it and it does not completely work with MarsEdit.
You can configure it to work.
It will download a list of posts.
when you go to edit a post it will not recognize categories.
in my case it generates an error:
Can’t do post for xxxx because the server reported an errorThe XML parser could not parse the data.: XML-RPC Response Parsing Failed. When I plug in the error to google I get this page: http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/342/xml
ing-failed
It essentially says:
add this line to the top of your XML-RPC php file (after the “<?php”):
$HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA = file_get_contents( 'php://input' );
Tried that; didn't work; now looking for help with it.
Must say the Joomla forums are dead on this issue;
support is so close; I'm hoping there is a little more eaqerness here to try to put this to bed once and for all...
Hi - the "XML Parser Failed" error is rather generic, it can be caused by any number of problems. The best thing to do is look at the Network Log and see what the XML replies are from the server. Paste in the results here if you want some help.
Also, perhaps others who have gotten Joomla working better can help by chiming in here. I'm not all that familiar with it myself.
Interesting. I missed that window. The issue appears to be quite apparent:

Looks like we need to take this to the Joomla forum... unless you know someone there...?

Sorry - I'm not in touch with anybody there. It does sound like something to raise with them. It looks like a library dependency from Joomla. Whatever "JText" is ... it's not finding it!
Thanks...
It would be nice if others who want this could reply to my Joomla forum post and make some noise about getting it fixed...
I would be interested in Mars Edit if Joomla was a supported CMS.
taphagreg - as far as I can tell the ball is sort of in Joomla's court. It might help to voice your support in the joomla forum posting referenced above by amstanley. I'm happy to fix bugs in MarsEdit if they're standing in the way, but at the moment I think it's shortcomings in Joomla that are preventing proper behavior.
Thanks, I will ask some questions on their forums and see what we get. from what i can see the XML-RPC handler needs some love but this hasn't been completed.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Now that Joomla is at 1.5 (XML-RPC-compliant as promised in the cited post at Joomla.org), perhaps it's time to revisit this?
John
mangoman: is that directed at me? or at people who are using Joomla?
I would expect if people have installed Joomla and it's supposed to have great XMLRPC support, people should "just try it" and let me know how it goes
Daniel
Directed to other Joomla users like myself. I've gone back and forth about integrating WordPress into a Joomla-powered site and finally settled on Azrul.com's MyBlog (rather than use several extensions that plugin & wrap around content items/articles, which is NOT a blog IMHO). Anyway, I'm curious to know/learn if & how the MarsEdit would feed into either Joomla! 1.5 or the myBlog component. I could/should post on the Azrul and Joomla forums, too, but coming here first prompted my question - and I hope generates some discussion from some experienced product/Joomla users!
