Click the New Post icon in the toolbar to create a new post. A window something like this will appear:
Note: The window’s exact appearance will vary, depending on what features your weblog system supports.
Write your post in the main text view. The content of your post depends on the weblog system, but is usually HTML. Use the Markup menu in the toolbar to add common HTML tags to your post, or to define powerful, custom markup macros.
Click the Options button to open a pane which may contain, depending on your weblog system, categories, text filters, comments status, and other options.
Additional fields such as Tags, Excerpt, Keywords, and Slug may be shown by selecting them from the menu. These fields will remain visible or hidden for each of your weblogs, until you change the selection.
For WordPress, Movable Type and other compatible systems, you can write your post in two sections: body and extended. The body is typically shown on the weblog’s front page, with a link to the extended content, often labeled "Continue Reading", or something similar. To switch between the sections, click the Body or Extended tab to the right of the Weblog popup menu near the top of the post editor window. If you're not sure about this feature, just leave it on Body
Other options such as Trackbacks, Technorati Tags, Enclosure and the Post Date can be edited from the
menu.Note: To make it easier to see which of body and extended is currently active, consider customizing the text and background colors for each tab. See Customizing Post Editor Colors for more information.
The toolbar contains a Text Markup pulldown menu with a number of common HTML tags included by default. Choose an item to add the corresponding HTML code to your post.
You can also add custom markup macros, and assign keyboard shortcuts to items in the menu. See Custom Tags and Shortcuts for more information.
To get a sense for how your post will look on the web, click the Preview button in the toolbar. This will open a separate window showing your post with HTML content rendered, and text filter applied.
You can edit your preview template so that it looks more like your weblog. See Editing Your Preview Template for more.
When you’re finished writing, click the Post button. MarsEdit will send the post to your weblog. Click the View On Web button in the toolbar to open the weblog in your web browser.
