Manual Blog Configuration

If MarsEdit fails to automatically detect your blog settings, you can enter them manually.

  1. Select the blog from the Blogs list in the main window.
  2. Select the Edit Settings menu item from the gear button below the blogs list.

The General tab of the Settings window includes a number of fields. The Name and Home URL should already be filled in.

For the System Name popup, select the appropriate system for your blog. If it’s not one of the listed types, select Other.

For the System API popup, you should leave the default selection unless you are sure you want to choose an alternative. If you selected "Other" for the system name, you’ll need to consult the blog system’s documentation to find out what API it supports, so you can choose an appropriate API here.

The API Endpoint URL field should contain the URL of the API endpoint on your system. This is not the URL of your RSS or Atom feed. If you are not sure what the API is for your blog system, see the system-specific instructions linked below.

The Blog ID is often your username or a number that identifies your blog. Different systems have different ways of letting you find out what the Blog ID is.

Instructions for manually configuring popular blog systems:

Blogger / Blogspot
Blosxom and Blosxom-compatible
Conversant
Drupal
LiveJournal
Manila
Movable Type
Radio UserLand
Tumblr
TypePad
Vox
WordPress

If your system is not listed above, you’ll need to find out which API it conforms to, if any. The best way to find this is to search documentation for terms like "xmlrpc". Many systems support the "MetaWeblog" or "Movable Type" APIs.

When you’re finished, click the OK button to save your changes.
